Today's episode is going to be a little different as I am doing it solo, rather than with a guest. This episode is going to be about me talking about a very personal experience – and that experience is getting my own Autism diagnosis.
I'm nervous about sharing it but I think it will help a lot of people and will break the stigma toward finding out you are autistic during your adulthood.
I will be talking about how I found out I'm autistic, what the specialist did to come to that conclusion, how I felt after it was confirmed, and what it was like talking to my family.

Hi Maria,
I just listened to your “How I found out I was autistic podcast”. This is the first podcast I have listened to & I plan to listen to more. One question I have is how long did it take to receive an autism diagnosis for your son since you stated his diagnosis was harder to receive. My daughter keeps getting referrals, but no diagnosis. OT says she has sensory processing disorder. As I listened to your podcast & heard you talk about your characteristics, I said “she sounds like me” 🙂 Thank you for what you are doing. You are appreciated
Powerful show! Thank you for adding value to my mental health awareness of adults who are living with autism. Sharing this in my network to help others who may be suffering in silence.
Thank you so much for your truth!!!! My son has autism. He was a preemie born at 24 weeks. Anyway, he was followed by a development pediatrician who gave me a referral ( when he was a bout 2-3 years old) for The Rose F. Kennedy Center (a child study center). His diagnosis was PPD, which when I looked it up is autism. However, I didn’t understand that so I was ignorant amd uneducated in austic characteristics to advocate. Fast forward to last year my son became agitated and aggressive and when brought to the hospital he was I guess officially diagnosed with autism. So when you talk about the autism burn out, I believe he had that along with COVID-19 situation, his sister being diagnosed with cancer, him not going to school, working, friends relationships with the family, etc he became super overwhelmed. Trying to get him services now to support him has been very difficult. I know the autism spectrum is very wide, however, I believe he would maybe have aspergers. If you have any resources to support me and him I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!!!
